Would You Risk Your Life for Food?

Friday January 12, 2024

This is an Ibex. It’s a species of wild goat that is a fantastic climber. Here is a picture of an Ibex climbing an incredibly steep wall just to get a lick of salt. They do this because they need salt to survive.

But guess what - we need salt to survive too.

I used to be a victim of the great salt myth – the fear instilled in me that salting my food would lead to unwanted weight gain and bloating. I shied away from this seemingly demonized ingredient, barely incorporating it into my meals. Little did I know, my reluctance to embrace salt was holding me back from unlocking the true potential of my culinary creations.

Eating more salt changed my life.

Knowing what I know now about nutrition and the fundamentals of cooking, a revelation struck me – salt was not the enemy but rather a powerful ally in the kitchen. The moment I started liberally using salt on meats and veggies, a world of flavors opened up, and I couldn't believe the transformation in the taste of my food.

The simplest and most effective way to level up your cooking game is by liberally using salt. It's a culinary secret weapon that has the ability to enhance the flavors of almost any dish.

Moreover, our bodies need sodium to survive, making it a win-win situation for both our taste buds and overall well-being.

For those committed to a mostly home-cooked, unprocessed diet, the need for sodium becomes even more important. Such diets naturally lack sodium, and failing to meet the body's requirements can lead to feelings of lethargy and overall dissatisfaction. It's crucial to recognize that salt isn't just a seasoning; it's a vital component in maintaining a healthy balance in your diet.

One of the main culprits for feeling suboptimal on a healthy diet is the lack of sodium. The misconception that healthy eating equates to bland and tasteless meals can be dispelled by embracing the transformative power of salt.

It’s time to break free from the salt fear and embrace it as an essential ingredient in your cooking. By understanding the power of salt, you not only enhance the flavors of your dishes but also contribute to your overall well-being. So, go ahead, sprinkle that pinch of salt with confidence, and embark on a flavorful journey that will redefine your relationship with food.
